Ever since she could stand, Petra always had an instrument in her hand, a song in her heart, and a notebook in her pocket. Born on May 4th, 1997 in Norwalk, Connecticut, Petra began her musical adventures with the help of her brother at the age of two. He would poise Petra on the piano bench and pressed her fingers on the keys to mimic the music he was learning. Growing up, Petra was a classically trained musician and performed at venues all over the New England Region. She has won a series of national and international piano, violin and vocal competitions that have led her to perform at world-renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall.
As Petra became older, her musical horizons began to expand. Petra's mother brought her a Fender when she was seven years old, and provided her with piano and vocal lessons as well.
It wasn't until she was about 12 years old in which she began to bring all her talents together to create the artist she is today. Petra had an extensive love for poetry and always had a knack for writing. Being the highly expressive individual that she is, Petra wanted to to chronicle the changes she was experiencing as a young teenager. It was only second nature to her to begin writing her own music. She also soon taught herself how to produce her own music on Garageband and created a mini-recording studio inside of her walk-in closet in her family’s home.
Spending the next few years honing in on her craft, Petra officially began work towards her first music release in 2014. The first song to come out of those efforts was her single, 'Glamour Girl," released in July 2015. The song received critical acclaim from bloggers all over the country, and has been spun on independent radio stations throughout the United States and Asia.
Petra is also an active live performer. She began touring the NYC music scene in 2015. In Manhattan alone, she has sold out performances at The Bitter End, Bowery Electric as well as three shows at Webster Hall. The biggest highlight of 2016 was Petra's first headlining international shows in Japan. She played five shows with her band in cities such as Tokyo, Kobe, and Osaka. The tour was supported by D'Addario, Evans Drumheads, Promark and Roland.
Petra kicked off 2017 with a tour in Los Angeles for a week, which included appearances at the GRAMMYs and performances at Molly Malone's, The Mint and Silverlake Lounge. This year, she will also embark on her first national tour beginning in March 2017 and preparing for her first full length musical release. Although she has already achieved so much at the age of 19, Petra is only getting started- so get ready.
